Hi, i'm using barcode4j to generate Datamatrix from a datamatrix bean like this example : the first time i work with Datamatrix and I don't understand how encoding works. Do I need to add a latch for switching between encoding ?

Concretely, i have to generate datamatrix from data like this : "12415112328F" with C40 encoding followed by a byte array (byte[]) with base 256 encoding. And most of all, how can I format my byte array to place it in the data string ?

Tanks in advance and good job for this amazing API !

Concretely, i have to generate datamatrix from data like this : "12415112328F" with C40 encoding followed by a byte array (byte[]) with base 256 encoding. And most of all, how can I format my byte array to place it in the data string ? Please note that control characters such as " (as 4 characters) into the message will encode 4 characters. Please see the note at the bottom of the following page about binary data: if you have to mix text and binary data, you will have to encode everything as an ISO-8859-1 encoded string that is converted to a RFC 2397 data URL.

Tanks in advance and good job for this amazing API ! Adding binary data is a bit complicated since Barcode4J started out with accepting only If you need an easy way to produce data URL, have a look at this: URLUtil.java? In your case, you have to encode the whole message as a data URL.

So, for the first part, just encode the message to ISO-8859-1 (Bytes("ISO-8859-1")) and concatenate the resulting byte array with the second part (byte array, not data URL). Please note that you don't have an influence on which encoding scheme is used internally.

The encoder always uses the most efficient combination.

So, no guarantee that you'll get base256 but the result should decode correctly in any case.

I don't know if my interrogation was well understood. I just need to retrieve the raw data of the barcode, not display them in a browser or anything like that !
